Relay Chatter Test System

The Model 8030 Chatter Test System from Circuit Equipment Corporation is a versatile unit, which automates the inspection and characterization of relays. The system, controlled by an internal PC and menu-driven software, tests to the requirements of MIL-PRF-83536 and MIL-PRF-39016. It tests the complete Vibration, Shock and Acceleration specifications sections.

The unit can test up to 100, one-pole FORM-C relays and up to 50, two-pole FORM-C relays at one time. Relays can have 1 to 8 poles, and Form A, B, or C. The user can run a special “Pre-Test”, which will verify all relays and connections, before the actual testing begins. If problems are encountered, they can be corrected and “pre-test” run again. This allows the environmental testing, to begin, with no initial wiring or functional problems.

During testing contacts are monitored for performance to the chatter specification, which is greater than 1usec for open contacts and greater than 10usec for closed contacts. If a failure occurs, the 8030 will display the pole that failed. Failures are latched once they occur during a test. Testing can be repeated for other axes as required. An advance key feature allows testing to continue after a Vibration or Shock or Acceleration cycle, even if the time out is not completed. This allows testing to run faster and more efficiently in production.

The Model 8030 allows the selection of many different relay configurations and parameters. For example: energize and de-energize times are programmable from 0.1 minute to 150.0 minutes. Running of the relay final testing is also selectable. All parameter selections are password-protected to guard against unauthorized changes. Configuration setup files as well as tests results data files can be saved and recalled from disk and easily printed. The user can perform Vibration, Shock, or Acceleration test monitoring, via menu selection. A typical test consists of a Pre-Test, Energize phase time monitoring, De-energize phase time monitoring, followed by relay Final testing.
