The Model 8025, Run-In/Miss Test System from Circuit Equipment Corporation is a versatile unit, which automates the inspection and characterization of relays. The system, controlled by an internal PC and menu-driven software, tests to the requirements of MIL-PRF-83536A and MIL-PRF-39016. It tests the complete Run-in Screening (miss), pull-in and drop-outvoltage specifications sections.
The unit can test up to 200 one-pole FORM-C relays and up to 100 two-pole FORM-C relays (with NO and NC contacts connected together in the series configuration). It can test up to 50 two-pole FORM-C relays (with the contacts separated, normal configuration). The user under program control can run a special “pre-test”, which will verify all relays and connections, before the actual testing begins. If problems are encountered, they can be corrected and “pre-test” is run again. This allows the environmental testing to be started, with no initial wiring or functional problems.
Measured results are compared with programmed test limits in the voltage and contact resistance tests. If a voltage failure occurs, the 8025 displays a relay failure. If contact resistance failures occur, the number of failures is logged for that contact.
The Model 8025 allows the selection of many different relay configurations and parameters. For example: environmental soak times are programmable from 1 minute to 99 minutes, as are the energize and de-energize times. Relay cycle rates can vary from 1800/minute to 3/minute. All parameter selections are password-protected to guard against unauthorized changes. Configuration files as well as test results data files can be saved and recalled from disk and easily printed. The user can perform a High temperature test [HOT] or a Low temperature test [COLD], both, or neither via menu selection.
A typical test consists of a programmed soak temperature, followed by a programed energize/deenergize soak, then a Pull-in and/or Drop-out voltage test, and finally by numerous run-in cycles, where contact resistance is measured. The total procedure is then repeated for the other environmental extreme.
